A Fox Yacht Sales Fish Fry...


This past Sunday Fox Yacht Sales hosted their annual fish fry, held at Robert's Point Park, for all the club members. The final tournament may have been cancelled but that didn't keep members from coming out to have a good time and grab some great food!

Tournament #6 & #7 Recap

After back to back weekends of fishing, tournament #6 and tournament #7 for the club are finally done and we have the results. We had seven boats turn in weigh sheets for the sixth tournament of the year and six boats turn in weigh sheets for this last weekends tournament which coincided with the Texas Legends Tournament

Tournament #6

Tournament #6 was a tournament of boated fish, many of the members weighed in wahoos, amberjacks, kings, and tunas.

AJ Hecker & Alexandra Smith aboard Wired Up weighed in the first Amberjack of the year to move into first and second place. AJ's fish weighed 56.60 lbs. while Alexandra's weighed 50.15 lbs.

Craig Reedy moved into first place in the wahoo division with a 18.10 lbs. fish brought in aboard the Miss Lainieous. Dylan Hester on Double Trouble and AJ also weighed in wahoo. Dylan's weighed in at 14.90 lbs. and AJ's fish weighed 11.95 lbs.

The Irish Jig weighed in four king mackerel. Karen O'Rear moved into second place with her fish weighing in at 17.55 lbs. She also is standing in third and fourth with a 15.85 lbs. fish and a 13.25 lbs. fish.

Craig & Randy Wiesehan moved into first and second place with their blackfin tuna weighed in tournament #6. Craig took first place with his fish at 19.25 lbs. and Randy's fish took second weighing 17.10 lbs.

Seven white marlin were caught this tournament. Marlin Johnson, the only junior to catch a fish this tournament, released a white marlin aboard the Aly Gator. Of the other six whites, three were caught on the Wired Up, one aboard Miss Lainieous, and two on the Double Trouble. 

Dylan moved into first place with the only swordfish released so far this year.

Tournament #7

The Double Trouble weighed in a boatload of fish this tournament. Their 16.5 lbs. wahoo caught by Dylan Hester moved them into second place on the leader board. Dylan also caught the second swordfish of the tournament.

Ashleigh Pundt on the Wired Up released her first blue marlin! Congratulations Ashleigh!

The Cuz We Can got into the sailfish this tournament, releasing four along with boating one yellowfin tuna. The sailfish were reeled in by Matt Reed, Kelly Owens, and Mac Owens. Justin Waight caught the tuna which weighed in at 13.5 lbs. putting him in second place in that division.

D.A. Hughes aboard the Wildcatter released two white marlin and one sailfish. He also weighed in a blackfin tuna at 14 lbs. putting him in fourth place in that category.

The crew on the Relax released two sailfish and one white marlin. Junior Nicole DeBerry released on of the whites.

The Miss Lainieous released one blue marlin reeled in by Craig Reedy.

Tournament #5 Recap

What a weekend it was for fishing! With serious doubt if the weather would cooperate or not, tournament #5 turned out to be beautiful weather. The anglers going out on Saturday were rewarded with multiple billfish per boat. 


Pulling in at 7:45 pm Saturday evening, the Aly Gator & Wired Up had a lot to celebrate. Wired Up released six sailfish and one white. Ashleigh Pundt reeled in three of those sails and the white, while anglers AJ Hecker and Lan Ingram reeled in the rest. Aboard the Aly Gator junior Marlin Johnson released two white, Aly Gerloff & Gary Edwards released one more white each, totaling four white marlin for the boat. 


The Fin Stalker released two sailfish (caught by Laurie Soechting & Claudette Jordan) and one white marlin. Laurie also weighed in a dolphin at 21.25 lbs. which put her in second place in that division. 


Todd Hester made a solo trip aboard the Double Trouble and it paid off! Todd released the only blue of this tournament. He also released two sailfish. 


The Wildcatter gang reeled in three sailfish with D.A. Hughes III & Matt Jones on the rods. D.A. also weighed in a wahoo at 13.6 lbs. which landed him at third place in that category. 


Fishin Impossible and Tico Time also released one sailfish each.

Tournament #4 Wrap Up

What a great weekend it was for fishing! With the Deep Sea Round Up going on and the CCBGFC Tournament #4, there were boats everywhere weighing in fish. Congratulations to all our members who won awards in the Deep Sea Round Up!

This tournament there were a total of 22 billfish released (2 blue marlin, 6 white marlin, and 14 sailfish).

Our first year member Bill Glendening released his first blue marlin aboard his boat, Cuz We Can. Bill's wife Cheryl also released 4 sailfish this tournament.

Also releasing sailfish were David & Laine Bradford, Ashleigh Pundt & D.A. Hughes, III.

Dylan Hester aboard the Double Trouble ended up with a great weekend! On Sunday Dylan caught a Grand Slam! Dylan also released a white marlin the day before.Congratulations Dylan!!


Alyssa Soechting on Finstalker released a white marlin, along with Wildcatter D.A. Hughes III. 


Ashleigh Pundt brought in the largest dolphin of the tournament, weighing in at 24.85 lbs. and caught on Wired Up. Overhauled brought in the second largest dolphin caught by Ray Pearson and weighing 17.65 lbs.


New member Karen O'Rear caught the second largest snapper weighing in at 12.15 lbs. aboard the Irish Jig. Also aboard the Irish Jig was Leigh Ann Irish who caught the largest snapper of the tournament at 12.30 lbs.

In the junior division Marlin Johnson & Hunter DeBerry both released white marlins. Marlin also released a sailfish.

Courtney Triplett on the Reel Easy caught the largest junior red snappers at 7.7 lbs and 7.4 lbs.

Marek Belcher aboard the Cuz We Can reeled in the largest wahoo of the tournament hitting the scale at 24.20 lbs.

Tournament #2 Results are in! Three blues and one sail released


Tournament #2 is done and the results are in!

After tournament #1 was cancelled, members were ready to get out on the water for tournament #2! With 12 boats weighing in the weighmaster’s saw a lot of snapper along with some king, ling, dorado and wahoo.
Red Snapper – 35 weighed
Dorado – 7 weighed
Wahoo – 5 weighed
King – 2 weighed
Ling – 2 weighed

The heaviest Red Snapper weighed 19.40 lbs. and was caught by Leigh Ann Irish aboard the Irish Jig. Leigh Ann also caught the second and third heaviest snappers with a 18.75 lbs. one and a 17.30 lbs snapper.

The largest Dorado was caught by Bryan Richter aboard the Let It Ride and weighed 19.3 lbs. The crew aboard Reel Passion caught the second and third heaviest dorados. Wayne Crawford and Elfriede Crawford both caught 2.35 lbs. dorados. Wayne takes second place with his fish, measuring 22 ¼ inches in length. Elfriede’s fish measured 22 inches.

A junior caught the heaviest Wahoo on Over Hauled. Omar Angel weighed in a 33.75 lbs. fish measuring 51 inches long! Aly Gerloff caught the second place wahoo aboard the Aly Gator.  Her fish weighed 15.5 lbs. and measured 41 ¾ inches in length. The third place wahoo was caught by John Meyer aboard Let It Ride and weighed 12.10 lbs.

Only two Kings were weighed in. First place king goes to Leigh Ann aboard the Irish Jig. Her king measured 49 ¼ inches in length and weighed 37.45 lbs. Junior Omar caught the second king that weighed 8.95 lbs. and was 33 ¾ inches long.

The only two Lings weighed in were caught aboard Wired Up. AJ Hecker’s fish weighed 20.85 lbs. and Ashleigh Pundt’s ling weighed in at 13.85 lbs.

Four billfish were released this tournament (3 blues and 1 sailfish) for a great start to the season!

Let It Ride released two blue marlins and anglers were John Meyer and Bobby Richter. Cool Blue and Darlene Beeson released one blue marlin and Colton Floyd aboard the Relax released a sailfish early in the morning.

We hope all our members had a great tournament and got to enjoy a good day of fishing! Our next tournament is June 23rd, this is the same date as the Texas Billfish Championship as well. Have a great week and we’ll see you on the dock!

Kickoff Party and Membership

As many of you know, we held our Kickoff Party at Virginia's Restaurant on May 12th. We hope everyone had a great time! Members enjoyed a great meal and a few drinks with the other members. The club also had a raffle for a fuel card. Craig Reedy won the raffle for a $225 fuel card. Congratulations Craig! Cheryl Pollard's survey was drawn from the group of survey's submitted by mail and at the kickoff party. Cheryl received a $50 gift card to Port "A" Outfitters so congratulations to her as well! Thank you to Port "A" Outfitters for their donation of the gift card.

As of now the Corpus Christi Big Game Fishing Club has 108 paid members. We hope that more members will continue to join as the fishing season goes on. Please encourage your friends, family members, and others to join the club!

The deadline is fast approaching for our sponsorships to be filled. We have many generous sponsors who continue to support the club year after year, as well as some new sponsors that we are excited to welcome. April Newsletter

CCBGFC New Officers 

The board met in early February to discuss the 2012 tournament season. We had the majority of our officers retire their positions this year. We would like to give a special thanks to the 2011 crew who had been serving the CCBGFC for a combined twenty years.

All retired officers still remain on the board and are very involved with the club, so be sure to thank them next time you cross paths.

The new officers for the 2012 CCBGFC are very excited about the upcoming year. We would like to encourage the return of previous members and any new recruits you may find. The club also has many new ideas for the upcoming season. We plan to upgrade the trophies this year. To promote more fishing we will also be doing some individual tournament awards. 2012 Kick-off Banquet 

Get your crew together and get ready! This year’s kick-off party will take place on Saturday, May 12th at 6pm. Virginia’s restaurant in Port Aransas will host the event. Sign-ups will be held here where you can get your t-shirts and weigh sheets. There will be a cash bar and a dinner buffet for all to enjoy. There will be a $25 non-member fee.

Survey: Let Us Know What You Think

We always want our members to enjoy the club and feel a part of it. Because of this we are always trying to think of new ways to make the club more fun and help it grow.

We have put together a survey included in your newsletter (which you should receive in the mail) for your convenience. While the questions are specific, we are always open to any ideas. We value your input so please feel free to email us with any further comments or ideas at ccbgfc@ccbgfc.org.

Welcome to the Corpus Christi Big Game Fishing Club (CCBGFC) Blog! 

We are so excited that you have decided to look us up and we hope you will continue to follow us throughout the season. 


We have updated our website as of today, April 3rd. The 2011 Sponsors and Winners are listed on the website as well as new officers and board members. You can also find membership forms on the website. We will be sending out membership forms in our April newsletter. 


Our Kickoff Party will be May 12th at 6:00 pm at Virginia's Restaurant. Information regarding the kickoff will also go out in our April newsletter. 


After tournaments begin and things get started for the club this year, all newsletters will be posted here on this blog. Be sure to sign up to follow us by email (at the top right of this page) to stay up to date on all club happenings!
